I started photographing during the summer of 1981, right after graduating from college. Some of the photos in this gallery were shot that first summer. Others were shot on the weekends over the next few years, as I spent my workdays learning the business of commercial photography by working as a photo assistant to many well known New York City photographers. That first summer of 1981 I took a photo workshop with Harold Feinstein, the legendary New York photography teacher who taught his workshop out of his Greenwich Village studio. The 'homework' was simple - go out and take pictures. Once a week we gathered in Harold's studio to show, discuss and exchange feedback on the photos we'd shot that previous week. There was nothing technical about the workshop. It was about creativity and vision, about helping each student to find their way and stay open to their creative path. Thank you Harold for the supportive and nurturing environment you created in your workshop.
